Lufa cleaning sponges
Grower: Aquaponic Lynx LLC
Price: $3.91(each piece)
Available (Exact):
3
Description: These are 5-7 inch pieces of sponges that are "less pretty" than the bath sponges. These are perfect for scrubbing pots and dishes or washing your car or any other cleaning projects around the house. This is what is left over because I do not wish to use bleach in the processing of the sponges but they are still perfectly useful.
Grown right here at my home in Florida. Yes grown, Lufa is a vine similar to a cucumber but much bigger. The fruit become quite large and if allowed to mature and dry on the vine, they can be pealed to become the nice plant fiber sponges so great for use in the bath or to wash dishes and scrub pots without worry of scratching the non stick surface. These plants are grown chemical free, some in soil and some in Aquaponics. Sponges are pealed and washed in plain water to remove plant juices and most seeds then dried in the sun. No bleach is used so color will vary. Sponges may contain a few free seeds. If you wish to grow your own, provide a strong trellis, these vines are able to grow to the top of trees in our long hot summers. Small fruits are edible.

Mosquito_fishw

Mosquito Fish (Gambusia)
Grower: Aquaponic Lynx LLC
Price: $20.00(box with a 1 Gallon breather Bag holding 10 mosqito fish)
Available (Exact):
1
Description: Need fish to start up a new aquaponics system? Or perhaps you just need something to control the mosquitoes in your rain barrel or ornamental pond? These are little live bearing native fish that eat mosquito larva and other small aquatic creatures. They don't get very big but they are hardy little fish that can survive all sorts of conditions. I've left a dozen of them in a 5 gallon bucket that had rain water in it, as long as there is a few inches of water for them, they seem to survive fairly well and keep the bucket from breeding swarms of terrible mosquitoes. I use these fish in my aquaponics systems where the bigger fish can't go to make sure I'm not breeding mosquitoes in my systems. I also use them in the kiddie pools under my worm bins (I keep the worm bins in a moat of water to keep the ants out) to keep that water from breeding mosquitoes. The Females are the larger fish, the males are smaller and there are often babies as well. I don't think I've ever seen one much over 2.5".
They do jump out of containers so beware what you put them in. Since it is a breather bag full of water you can't simply float the bag in the intended new home to equal out the water temperature, you will need to open the bag and remove some water and add some of the new home water a few times to equal out the temperature before putting the new fish in their new home.
