host video here?

Well I’m tinkering with lots of little things trying to learn more about hosting videos and web cams and other things

I spent several hours today figuring out how I might be able to host videos directly on my own web site if I want to (there are still many reasons that it may still be worth using YouTube.)

Anyway, the above video clip (I know really short) but it makes tinkering a bit easier when not working with huge files. But that clip shows some of my ZipGrow towers (Thank you Nate Storey) I love testing out new things and they are doing much better for me now than they were several months ago.

I just showed Nate the little trick I’m using with the water bottle parts spreading the spray into a dribbling flow all around the tower media. When I used to have it spraying down into the towers, I would get slime and splashing out of the towers. I haven’t been running the bottle spreaders for long but I’ve not had any problems with them since I started doing it a few weeks ago.

Next video here will be one of the cook cutting some pea shoots we have just begun growing. We have found that pea and sunflower shoots are marvelous for snacking and salads and they don’t take too long to grow. This was something we picked up when we visited Milwaukee.

Now I’m still figuring out how to make this all look a bit better but I expect most of my videos will be hosed on YouTube (since using such video hosting actually has many benefits as youtube has become such a great search engine) but I thought I should be able to put stuff in my site and have it totally hosted in my site if I want.

Well I didn’t update it in this post yet but I’ve even got a splash snapshot for the two main videos on the right sidebar. They are now playing from this site instead of having to wait on YouTube to play them through. I think I should still post to YoutTube for the traffic and viewing it brings but for larger videos I wish to have on my own site, I’ll host them here for quicker viewing.

    Hi TCLynx!

Just found your site today. Remembered seeing your posts on some of the aquaponics sites. I looked around for more info on he bottle parts spreaders but could not seem to find any more info on your site. Do you think you could make a post about it or point me in the right direction? I have subscribed to your blog’s feed so I should see it in my inbox when you post. I am wanting to make my own towers and here that even water distribution is a common problem.

      Hi Frederickjh,
I’ll see about writing a post about it but it is really simple I’m not even sure I can stretch it to fill a blog post.

I simply cut off the bottom half of a small empty water bottle which happened to have a neck big enough to slide some 1/2″ pvc into. I pulled the end cap off the pvc, slide the water bottle onto the pipe, then replace the end cape with one where the hole is drilled off to the side rather than shooting straight down. With the water spraying off to the side, it hits the water bottle shield and dribbles down all around.
